Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until onions are translucent.
  4. Add turmeric powder and stir for 30 seconds.
  5. Add the rinsed rice and stir to coat with the oil and spices.
  6. Pour in the water and add salt.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover.
  8. Cook for 15 minutes or until water is absorbed.
  9. Remove from heat and let it sit for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
