Description

The Philly Cheesesteak Bowl is a delightful twist on the classic sandwich, combining tender beef, sautéed vegetables, and melted cheese over a bed of fluffy rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) thinly sliced beef: Ribeye or sirloin works best for tenderness and flavor.
  • 1 medium bell pepper: Choose either red or green for a pop of color and sweetness.
  • 1 medium onion: Sliced onions add a savory depth to the dish.
  • 2 cups cooked rice: White or brown rice serves as the hearty base for your bowl.
  • 1 cup provolone cheese: Shredded or sliced, this cheese melts beautifully over the hot ingredients.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil: For sautéing the vegetables and beef, adding richness to the dish.
  • 2 cloves garlic: Minced garlic enhances the overall flavor profile.
  • Salt and pepper: Essential for seasoning to taste.
  • Optional: Fresh parsley for garnish, adding a touch of freshness and color.

Instructions

  1. Prepare all your ingredients by slicing the beef, bell pepper, and onion. Cook the rice according to package instructions.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add one tablespoon of olive oil, and cook the thinly sliced beef seasoned with salt and pepper for about 3-5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil, sauté the sliced onion and bell pepper for about 5-7 minutes until tender, then add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Combine the sautéed vegetables with the cooked beef in the skillet and mix gently, cooking for another minute.
  5. Assemble the bowl by placing a bed of warm cooked rice in each serving bowl, topping it with the beef and vegetable mixture, and sprinkling shredded provolone cheese on top. Cover the skillet for a minute to let the cheese melt.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute beef with a mix of mushrooms, zucchini, and eggplant.
  • For a spicy kick, add jalapeños or use spicy pepper jack cheese.
  • Consider marinating the beef for enhanced flavor.
