Description

A delightful blend of spicy hot sausage, creamy feta cheese, and sweet honey on a perfectly crispy crust.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 pound hot sausage (Italian, chorizo, or spicy chicken)
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for brushing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella (optional)
  • 1/4 cup honey or hot honey
  • Fresh basil or arugula for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a mixing bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add flour, salt, and olive oil; mix until a dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes, then let rise for 1 hour.
  2. Cook the Hot Sausage: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, crumble and cook the sausage for 5-7 minutes until browned. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  3. Preheat the Oven & Prepare the Crust: Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll out the dough to 12 inches in diameter and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic and oregano.
  4. Assemble the Pizza: Optional – add mozzarella. Distribute feta cheese and cooked sausage over the dough. Sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes if desired.
  5. Bake the Pizza: Bake for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown. If using a pizza stone, check after 8-12 minutes.
  6. Finish with Honey & Garnish: Drizzle honey over the pizza and garnish with fresh basil or arugula. Slice and serve hot.

Notes

Experiment with different toppings and cheese for variations. Ensure the dough rises sufficiently for the best texture.
