Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 cups (250 grams)
- Active dry yeast: 1 teaspoon
- Sugar: 1 teaspoon
- Warm water: 3/4 cup (180 ml)
- Yogurt: 1/4 cup (60 grams)
- Salt: 1 teaspoon
- Baking powder: 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
- Garlic: 3 cloves, minced
- Unsalted butter: 4 tablespoons (56 grams), melted
- Fresh cilantro or parsley: 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Crushed red pepper flakes: to taste
- Dried oregano: to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the dough by mixing warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast in a small bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Make a well in the center and add yogurt and the frothy yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- After rising, punch down the dough, divide it into 6 portions, and roll each into a ball, then flatten to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook each naan for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Brush the cooked naan with melted garlic butter and serve warm.
Notes
- Use warm water to activate the yeast.
- Knead the dough well for a fluffy texture.
- Avoid over-proofing the dough to prevent sourness.
- Preheat the skillet for a perfect golden crust.
- Serve immediately for the best taste.
