- 12 oz bow tie pasta (farfalle)
- 1 lb Italian sausage (either turkey or chicken)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or half and half
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for garnish)
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil (chopped for garnish)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the bow tie pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, then add Italian sausage, cooking until browned and fully cooked.
- Add minced garlic and finely chopped onion to the skillet, sauté until fragrant and onions soften.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce, add red pepper flakes and Italian seasoning, simmer for five minutes.
- Stir in heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese until smooth, then add cooked sausage back to the skillet and mix well.
- Gently toss cooked pasta into the skillet, ensuring it’s well-coated in sauce.
- Garnish with chopped basil and more Parmesan cheese before serving warm.
